The Church,

Rostrevor

Converting a Methodist Church to a restaurant is the challenge the clients took on.

McNulty Smyth Associates were appointed for the fit-out of this project and were responsible for layout, interior fittings and finishes to result in this beautiful building being in use for many more years. Key features were highlighted, and the layout was given a sense of cosiness by inserting a new removable cross shaped joinery piece on the main axis of the knave, with allowed for intimate banquette seating, and breaks down the scale of this large space to human scale. A bespoke chandelier fitting was commissioned, and sits comfortably alongside the original elegant glass pendants of the Church. Original pews were repurposed and incorporated into the layout. Colours were inspired by the colours found in the original stained glass windows.

Bathrooms were treated as stylish refuge with a similar atmosphere imbued to the main space of the restaurant.

The Church now also hosts weddings and is testimony to the clients courage and vision.
