Coastal
Retreat
Refurbishment & extension of existing lime rendered cottage on the sea. Designed to maximise sea views, whilst being respectful of the prominent location by the sea. The new extensions create an internal sheltered courtyard, perfect for an evening barbeque on a windy day.
Local stone is used on the extension, with the form broken into elements, reflecting the evolution of typical local Irish rural farms. Zinc is used in the connected gaps between the different broken down elements of the extension. The house and extension sit gently into a wildflower meadow of indigenous plants.
Being engaged for the interiors for the cottage, a distinction was made between the treatment of the original cottage and the contemporary extension. Natural materials and soft tones allow the views of this stunning location take centre stage.
